St. Clement's Sports Hub, formally known as St Clements Golf & Sports Centre, has been providing accessible sporting facilities for the people of Jersey for well over 100 years. Originally known as 'The Jersey Recreation Grounds Company Limited', or by the locals as 'The Rec Grounds' it was the 17th company to be registered in Jersey.
The Jersey Recreation Grounds Company Limited was founded on 27th December 1913 by a group of businessmen, it being their forethought in providing accessible recreation to all the people of Jersey that has lead to the Sports Centre that we have today. In those halcyon days, the main sports being provided were grass tennis courts and a bowling green, however, within a very short period, and with the acquisition of additional land, a 9 hole, par three, 'pitch and putt' golf course was established.
Over the past years, the sports centre has been further extended, upgraded and developed and now offers the most southerly golf course in the British Isles; a testing 9-hole parkland course measuring 2637 yards (par 33) together with a 3-hole Academy course suitable for all ages and abilities with costs starting from as little as £3!
The once grass surface tennis courts, have been replaced by tarmacadam, allowing our users all year-round access.
The centre is also home to the only 'Padel Tennis' courts in Jersey. This new sport, popular in Europe, and originating in South America, is a combination of tennis and squash and is played in both in door and out door, in an enclosed glass walled court. This court being half the size of a tennis court, however the same the rules of tennis are applied, except that the starting serve must be under arm! This is a must try game.
The following clubs are sited within the centre; St Clements Golf Club, St Clements Ladies Golf Club, these being established in 1925 and 1924 respectively. These clubs are continually looking for new members, so please contact them directly if interested or via our Reception, telephone 721938. Furthermore, the Jersey Squash and Racketball Club have their club and five squash courts located within the centre, although this is a private club, a squash court is available to the public.
Located centrally within the 'Hub' is the fully licenced 'Partners Restaurant'.
Peacefully set in the parish of St Clement, the sports centre is open from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week and now ranks as one of the leading sports facilities in Jersey.
It remains the company's intention to continue to improve and develop the facilities. Changes to certain areas of the golf course have been agreed and are currently being implemented.
St Clements Golf and Sports Centre is a family-friendly place, open to everyone, and continues to operate with the same spirit and intentions that its founders had over a century ago.
We hope you like our new look and we thought you might like to know a little more about our new identity.
St. Clement's Sports Hub is the location to play some of the most popular sports on the island. To highlight this, our logo features the recognisable location pin icon (a white dot in a teardrop).
Fanning out from the location icon are four colourful teardrops which together form a 'player' hitting a ball. You may also see an 'impact' symbolising the effects of a ball hitting a surface. Or balls coming towards you whilst leaving a colourful trail.
Each teardrop represents a sport that can be played at the Sports Hub.
